Back in 2003 or 2004 I spent a couple of months in Granada trying to learn Spanish. I succeeded only partially. My Spanish was okay, but I still couldn’t completely understand what people in Granada were talking about. Andalucian accents and all. It didn’t really matter to me all that much. I was not really there to learn Spanish. I was in Granada to enjoy Granada, a wonderful city filled with old monuments, cosy neighborhoods, great restaurants and a lot of sunshine, even in wintertime. After I left it took me 15 years to go back there. I guess I didn’t want to spoil the memory. But early 2019 I went back, for a story in a Belgian magazine. Immediately I felt that connection with Granada again. Even with the Alhambra, the most visited monument in the whole of Spain, but still worth queuing for (and buying a ticket for way in advance). To me Granada is the perfect winter getaway. Let me show you why.
