Because you grew up in a world where almost every piece of machinery you owned was ‘Made in Taiwan’, you must have become curious at some point. Luckily Taiwan is well worth your visit. It has an interesting capital (Taipei), a beautiful coastline on the east coast, incredible food, friendly people, lots of temples and some very strange pastimes – like urban shrimp fishing. Sure, not every bit of the island is pretty, but you’ll find stunning tea plantations, pretty parks and lakes and a subtropcial coastline. I visited Taiwan around the time of the Lantern Festival (usually end of January – beginning of February).
